REFEREE, 2026-2029

REFEREE brings together leading European partners, coordinated by SmartAvatar B.V. (Netherlands), to advance next-generation industrial networks through a novel AI-native 6G reference architecture. The project integrates cell-free massive MIMO (CFmMIMO) with Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) in a modular platform combining environmental interaction, resilient edge orchestration, and intelligent network behavior. Semantic communications and Digital Twin synchronisation enable the network to understand context and maintain real-time alignment between physical and virtual environments. REFEREE validates its technology across three verticals — smart manufacturing, precision agriculture, and XR-based teleoperation for remote robotics — through real-world demonstrations in multiple European countries. Running from December 2026 to June 2029 with a budget of €2,971,000, the project has a consortium of six partners spanning the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Portugal, and Spain.
