We walk faster. We cross the street. We text someone just in case.
These are everyday safety rituals — but we rarely talk about them out loud.
And when we do talk, it’s often to each other. Quiet warnings. Unofficial advice.
The world sees safety as a policy issue. But for many of us, it’s personal. It’s lived.
A quick walkthrough.
Why don’t people report it?
Because reporting is often complicated, retraumatizing, or doesn’t feel “serious enough.”
That’s the gap.
And Bånded exists to close it.
We use crowdsourced, community-driven data to make these invisible moments visible — and give people the power to speak up safely, in their own time and on their own terms.
Because if we want safer streets, campuses, and transit, we need to know what’s actually happening in them.
Bånded is more than a safety app. It’s a tool to take back public space — with your voice, your people, and your story.
Here’s what you can do with Bånded:
Citizens can flag unsafe locations & rate areas.
Direct communication for safety alerts.
Immediate video/audio recording & location sharing.
Infrastructure Rating - Report & prioritize urban issues (roads, lights, safety).
Backend access to location-based citizen insights.
Community-driven problem-solving based on citizen needs.
It started with a bagel run.
But really, it started long before that.
Bånded began in 2021, during a quick morning errand in Los Angeles. I wanted to grab coffee and bagels for a friend — but they warned me:
“Don’t walk past that construction site. People have been getting catcalled.”
So I took the car.
On the way, I saw another girl walking.
She got catcalled.
That moment stuck with me.
Because it reminded me of something we all do, especially as women and marginalized folks:
We pass down safety tips like an oral tradition.
Which street to avoid. What time to leave. Who to text when you're walking home.
“An invisible system.
An oral tradition.”
We’ve built ways to protect each other — but they’ve stayed informal, undocumented, and scattered.
That’s where Bånded began.
Today, Bånded is a community-powered safety app.
You can:
Log an incident (anonymously or not)
Alert your trusted circle
Or simply share what you experienced — no pressure, no bureaucracy.
To make the invisible visible.
To map the everyday moments that shape how we move through the world.
Because safety isn’t just about policies.
It’s about people looking out for each other.
